Krista Detor Returns to Stanford with the
'Art & Science of Sustainability' Colloquium

April 2012, Stanford will host a colloquium that centers on the necessary roles of science and art in our efforts to increase human sustainability. This program will be a two-day event that brings distinguished artists, writers, and scientists to Stanford whose work engages with sustainability and who can offestudents diverse perspectives, feedback, and inspiration.

Featured participants include: Wes Jackson (President of the Land Institute and author), Scott Sanders (fiction and non-fiction writer and author of over 20 books), and Krista Detor (singer and songwriter). The practicum will include lectures, performances, and round table discussions as well as more hands-on workshops in which students may bring a project or an idea.

What Lies Ahead

-2012 will be a year of exploring new ideas and new territory. Beginning with a collaboration with two beloved Indiana authors, Phillip Gulley and Scott R. Sanders, along with celebrated songwriter Carrie Newcomer, I’m exploring the mystery that lies just beneath the surface here in Indiana in a performance called ‘Miracles, Myths, Lyrics and Lies,’ which will do a limited tour here in the Hoosier State.

In early Spring, I return to Stanford as part of an ‘Art & Science of Sustainability’ Colloquium – exploring the role of art in the imminent discussions of human sustainability. It’ll be exciting to work with students in determining new paths, new ideas.  Following Stanford, I’m bound for Italy for the first time – to perform and take in the beautiful Tuscan landscape.

Late Spring will bring the debut of the original musical ‘The Breeze Bends the Grass’ – I’ll be principally composing and directing this celebration of women artists in the early 20th century, with my good friend, author Arbutus Cunningham.

In Mid-May, I’ll be hosting an inter-generational songwriting/storytelling event with Carrie Newcomer, called ‘The Continuing Story.’

Mid-Summer will lead me to the Southwest, where I’ll be conducting a week-long workshop at the famed Ghost Ranch outside of Santa Fe, NM, as well as performing and doing some radio. I’ll tour the upper Midwest, in a series of Arts Centers and outdoor series’ in August, as well as the Mid-Atlantic.

September will find me in New Delhi, India, at a residency in the Theater Dept. of the American Embassy School. I’ll be working on a non-traditional musical theater piece with the highschool students, based on ideas set forth in the work ‘The Songlines’ by Bruce Chatwin.

Late October will mean a return to Ireland and the UK with my trio, and the end of the year will come with the annual holiday tour, including a live appearance on Chicago’s WFMT Midnight Special Folkstage.

No. I won’t be sleeping much…  Have a wonderful year!
